Moto G5 Plus Review
Design & Build
The G5 Plus measures 150 x 74 x 7.7mm and weighs 155g, which is thin and light and felt comfortable to hold. Unlike previous models of the G series, Lenovo has decided to go with the metal body to add a more premium feel to the smart phone, & it is available in stylish Lunar Grey or Fine Gold color options. The G5 Plus’s display is sporting a 5.2-inch Full HD IPS LCD with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.
The phone does have a Water repellent nano-coating, which will protect your phone from splashes or accidental rain caught. Moto G5 Plus is unlocked so you can switch among all major U.S. networks, like Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Consumer Cellular, Republic Wireless, and many more. It is a single sim device, but you can switch networks by simply swapping SIM cards and support for 4G LTE. There’s expandable storage option for an additional 128 GB, so you wont run out of storage to store all your music, movies, photo’s or all the stuff you like.
It is Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor with 2.0 GHz octa-core CPU that power’s G5 Plus with 650 MHz Adreno 506 GPU . Snapdragon 625 provides enough power for day-to-day task’s as well as moderate gaming. There will be no issue of lagging, switching between apps, launching camera or browsing & streaming music will be lightning fast. With powerful graphics capabilities, you will enjoy stutter-free playback of your favorite games and videos. It might struggle with heavy-duty tasks or graphics hungry games. There are 2 & 4 GB ram options available, which will be enough for most of the tasks.
The Moto G5 Plus runs Android 7 Nougat out of the box with custom UI on the top. The launcher is similar to what you get on Google pixel launcher. It also features Moto experiences, which include Moto Display and Moto Actions. It is minimal when it comes to pre-bundled apps as it was always a Plus point for MOTO user’s. Moto Display lets you see a preview of your notifications and updates without unlocking your phone, so can decide whether you need to read it now or leave it for later. It is improved than previous version, it is now more colorful & offer’s more information at your glance. Moto Actions, lets you access apps much quicker with a simple movement or gestures. Like, twisting wrist to open camera or chopping down twice to turn on the flashlight.
The smart phone also sports a fingerprint scanner located on the front, below the screen. The front-facing fingerprint scanner not only serves for a security purpose but can also be converted into a navigation tool. Which might take some time to adopt for some user’s as we are used to the physical or capacitive back and multi-tasking buttons from a long time. Simply enable a setting to remove the on-screen navigation buttons and use a series of swipe gestures on the finger scanner to move through the user interface.
The Moto G5 Plus camera features a 12 MP primary camera with Dual Auto-focus Pixels for super-fast auto-focus. Impressive f/1.7 aperture for low light shots, Color balancing dual LED flash & 8X digital zoom for photos. Using 10 times more pixels on the sensor, the camera is able to lock onto a subject up to 60% faster than ever before. Resulting into fewer missed shots. So, you wont miss those special moments that you might have missed capturing before. The added wider lens give photos more breathing room than average camera.
While the front-facing camera is a 5 MP shooter with f/2.2 aperture. The wide-angle lens is perfect for group selfies and video chats. The moto G5 plus also features next-generation software. Best Shot, Professional Mode, and Beautification Mode give you everything you need to take one amazing photo after another.
When it comes to video recording, the G5 Plus can capture 4K Ultra HD @ 30 FPS & Slow Motion video.
The G5 Plus packs a 3,000 mAh battery, which is not removable. It might not seems impressive but thanks to the Turbo-power charging feature you get up to 6 hours of power in 15 minutes of charging. The power efficient Snapdragon 625 helps that battery to last even longer than on a flagship phone with a similar capacity. With moderate or basic use the battery will last for a whole day or next half. If you are a heavy tasker then you might need to carry charger with you, the turbo feature will help to charge it quickly.
Moto is a very reliable name when it comes to buying phones. Whether it is security, system or feature updates, moto is quiet quick. The interface is minimal unlike other brands & UI is lag free. There’s also Google Assistant coming via update. When it comes to competition, there is Samsung Galaxy A series. Which is Samsung’s mid range series, that is 50-100$ more expensive. So, The Moto G5 plus is a perfect mid ranger for those who wants a Great phone for multimedia, moderate gaming, good camera photography & day-to-day tasks with excellent battery life. With price tag of 229$ & 299$, it is a great deal without being heavy on your pocket.
Finally, I’m dividing this review into Pro’s & Con’s
|+ The Good||− The BAD|
This is probably the best mid-range phone you can get under 300$. It offer’s good build quality, nice features, good camera performance & equipped with latest Android 7.0 Nougat.
