Inverter AC Vs Non Inverter AC – What is difference ?

By Bryan Leave a Comment | Last Updated April 1, 2018

My misunderstanding regarding Inverter AC was that it is designed to run on an inverter system !!! So when my friend said he has bought inverter AC due to power cuts in his area, I did not bother to study about it and blindly bought standard split AC with 5 star rating … my assumption was that 5 star means I am saving on my bills !!!

But after understanding in detail about inverter Air conditioners I can surely say that it is a myth that they are designed to run on an inverter power backup system …

How Inverter Air Conditioner Works ?

An inverter controls the speed of the compressor motor, which changes as per the temperature the Air Conditioner is set at.

The compressor motor of a non-inverter Air Conditioner only operates at a maximum capacity, or is switched off altogether, leading to unnecessary electricity consumption and higher electricity bills.

Whereas an Inverter Air Conditioner is able to control the speed of the compressor motor eliminating stop-start cycles, resulting into less breakdowns and cheaper running cost.

Inverter AC Vs Non Inverter AC comparison

Inverter AC

Normal AC

Compressor is continuous ON at variable power consumption modeCompressor switches ON/OFF
Economical in long run cutting down running costs, upto 60% less consumptionHigh running costs
High initial investmentLow initial investment
~15% Faster cooling achieved practically in room Slow cooling achieved due to ON/OFF  cycle of compressor
You will feel very less fluctuation in room temperatureYou will feel fluctuation in room temperature as the compressor switches ON/OFF time to time
Compressor keeps running at low power consumption mode after achieving desired set temperatureCompressor stops working as the set temperature achieved

From the comparison of Inverter AC Vs Non Inverter AC it is pretty clear that Inverter AC’s are Economical, Stable in operation, Faster for cooling and silent than traditional air conditioners.

So think twice before you finalize your purchase of air conditioner this summer and if you are running on solar energy surely Inverter AC is a choice for you.

Have a cool summer !!

Cheers !!
