I myself love Music alot. I used many Wireless Bluetooth Speakers many of them were perfect combination of Bass & Loudness.

Thing which made me Check for a new Alternative…

The prime reason was the lack of Waterproofing ability of the Speakers, Slippery Body Texture, Low Bass Quality & missing that magic feel.

Flip 3 vs Flip 4, Is it worth it to upgrade ?

Basically they have updated the Bluetooth version from v4.1 to v4.2 in Flip 4, of-course that will not make any huge difference in the sound quality played via Bluetooth.

There is also some weight gain from 450 grams in Flip 3 against 515 grams in the new Flip 4.

Flip 4 holds the same battery as Flip 3 which is 3000 mAh, but instead of 10 hours music playtime they claimed on the Flip 3 they are claiming 12 hours on the Flip 4.

Now coming to the biggest improvements in our opinion are –

Frequency range :

Flip 4 has now lower frequency response of 70 Hz which is good compared to the Flip 3 which has lower frequecy response of 85 Hz, in our practical test we could make out this difference when we played the music at 65% of Volume.

We tested Flip 3 vs Flip 4:

Our practical tests showed up that JBL Flip 4 definitely have improvement in the sound quality. The lows are definitely better but the highs also sound littlebit lifted up compared to the Flip 3. We also noticed that about 65% volume the bass on the flip 4 starts getting good, you can also hear the mids and highs going up. Overall the Flip 4 sounds cleaner and clearer than Flip 3. However we can not say that the improvement in Flip 4 over Flip 3 is huge, it can be said that it has got better and better that’s all.

Next good improvement on JBL Flip 4 is in the waterproof rating :

Flip 4 has the IPX7 rating unlike the flip 3 which is only splashproof, the flip 4 is completely waterproof, which means you can completely submerge it into water and it will work fine.

Now Flip 3 is still a best rival to the UE Boom 2, but its only downfall was that it is not fully waterproof like the UE Boom 2, so Flip 4 is the answer to that from JBL !
So it will be interesting to see what UE Boom comes out with against JBL’s step in Flip improvements.

Last improvement but not the least:  JBL Connect+

JBL connect Plus, now this is good news and bad news too ! What is bad news ? is that JBL new speakers with connect plus can not connect with old speakers with only JBL connect ! And the good news is that new JBL connect plus you will be able to connect to over 100 speakers to play at the same time which is just incrediable ! But not sure when we will be able to test this feature since we do not have capacity to buy or get 100 JBL Flip 4 speakers for testing !!

Now the million dollar question ? is it worth to upgrade from Flip 4 from Flip 3 ?

Honestly the upgrade does not show lip jump from Flip 3, however if you are sure that you want to have a waterproof speaker then there is no doubt why you should upgrade to Flip 4.
and for the new buyers, if the budget permits we suggest straight to go for Flip 4 since its obvuously an improvement over Flip 3 and its still a descent price for the sound quality it delivers.
